FSU Advertising Club Takes On New York City

The FSU Advertising Club set off to New York City this November for their annual networking trip. For the first time since 2019, members were able to explore the city and the coveted companies that encompass it. Whether it be award-winning agencies or in-house honorees, these students got an up-close look at what their careers could look like in communications, marketing, and advertising.

“Being able to see these agencies in person really gave me a good idea of what I want to look for in my future career come graduation,” FSU Ad Club President Maria Chencinski said. “Witnessing company culture and meeting professionals is always a priceless experience!”

Students toured industry powerhouses such as TBWA, Mother New York, Wunderman Thompson, and The New York Times. This diversified mix of visits tapped into both creative and client-side interests that these entry-level professionals align with.

“As a senior, it was eye-opening to look into different advertising concentrations within the industry,” said FSU Ad Club Secretary Lizzie Monk. “Getting to speak with and learn from the people currently in these roles was such an invaluable experience as I begin to apply for jobs.”

While this trip aided graduating seniors with clarity regarding their future careers, it also charted the path for newcomers. Many underclassmen attended the trip to get a head start on their prospective careers and learn the basics of what the industry has to offer.

“Since traveling to New York as a freshman with no advertising background, this trip has solidified my desire to work in the industry, as it taught me so much about different jobs,” said club member Parker Ladle. “It was also inspiring to see the behind-the-scenes of some fantastic campaigns by the companies we visited.”

The priceless memories made on this year’s networking trip will be treasured for years to come by these aspiring advertising professionals. And through educational trips such as this, The School of Communication continues to broaden students’ knowledge base outside of the classroom setting with hands-on educational opportunities.
