Competition to Careers
The competition fosters collaboration, team work and agency. Students develop the knowledge, skills, network and aptitudes needed for success in our global society and marketplace. They have connections to an industry network and leadership pipeline through their affiliation with the federation and alumni of the FSU program. And many land top jobs in the field.
The Collaboration
Arrowhead Advertising is a managed by the School of Communication at FSU. The curriculum centers on the National Student Advertising Competition. Students participating in the competition must be members of the university's AAF college chapter — the Ad Club.
The AAF is headquartered in Washington, DC . They have more than 150 local clubs across the U.S. and more than 4,000 college chapter members in their 140+ college chapter network. Each year, students participate in an array of programs at the local and national level, from career conferences to networking events and student award opportunities. FSU is proud to have one of the largest AAF college chapters in the nation.
FSU's Ad Club
Ad Club is a registered student organization at Florida State University. Membership in FSU’s AdClub registers students with the AAF, tying them into a pipeline of nationally coordinated advertisers, agencies, media companies, local advertising clubs, and college chapters. The club's mission is to connect students who have similar career aspirations, in hopes of building a network of motivated students who are prepared to launch into the professional world.
While AdClub provides insight into the communications industry, it is not exclusive to those who are interested in advertising. Those pursuing careers in public relations, marketing, digital media production, journalism, and other areas of communication will find the club of interest as well and it is open to all students, regardless of their major.
Our History
Arrowhead advertising was founded in the late 1980s by retired School of Communication faculty member Barry Solomon. By the mid-’90s Solomon established a for-credit course for the competition team. A dedicated lab space followed when the College of Communication and Information moved to the stadium. Students branded the team, Arrowhead Advertising. A name that lives on and serves as a source of inspiration to students today.
