Annabel Owen, a senior majoring in advertising with minors in business and Spanish, is serving as the Arrowhead Advertising director of videography this school year. Annabel leads a team of 5, including herself, as they create content for Arrowhead’s National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC) campaign.

This semester the video team is creating two videos for Arrowhead’s NSAC campaign. Annabel edits the script, picks shoot locations, and oversees the video creation. By carefully planning and creating these videos, Annabel leads the video team as they produce content that aids the campaign mission. “One of the videos we are making this semester is modeled after a more produced commercial – your typical brand anthem.” Annabel says, “We’re also shooting a testimonial-style video. That video will be a bit more casual and genuine, whereas the other video is scripted and is more done up.”

Annabel and the video team put a lot of planning and consideration into the creation of these videos. Specifically, they use research conducted the previous semester as they plan their videos. “The people that we’re advertising to don’t want a cheesy commercial. That’s what we got from all of our research last semester.” Says Annabel. “The video team takes the general ideas of the campaign mission and tries to bring that to life in a refreshing way. We come together to convey the brand anthem without being too inauthentic.” The marriage of advertising knowledge with film production skills is senior and advertising major, Phaedra Mladenovic’s favorite part of being on the video team. This combination of skill sets is an essential part of the Arrowhead team’s campaign.

Getting to carry out creative ideas from start to finish – making them a reality – is one of Annabel’s favorite parts of Arrowhead. “It’s been such a pleasure to sculpt our ideas into a real project,” Annabel says. “Being able to make the vision in your head happen is such a cool thing. It’s so wonderful that all of us [the video team] share that vision.” This feeling of accomplishment, alongside the creative vision, is also shared across the video team. Cory Cannarozzi, a senior majoring in digital media production, agrees “One of my favorite things about Arrowhead is getting to see ideas carried out, from the planning phase all the way to the execution.”

Although the video team means business, they don’t miss out on their fair share of fun. “To have a creative workspace you have to have that camaraderie and humor in the workspace as well.” Says Annabel. “It helps you get those creative juices flowing, feel more comfortable with your team, and garner that relationship building.” This type of environment feeds the productivity of the group, allowing them to accomplish their goals. Annabel describes the Arrowhead team as dedicated individuals who all have the same passions and work ethic. “It’s such a wonderful breath of fresh air.” Says Annabel.

Outside of Arrowhead, Annabel is passionate about music. Annabel writes songs, plays the guitar, works as a DJ, and organizes concerts. Annabel says, “Music is definitely a humongous passion of mine, so I love to get involved with everything music-related!”

Annabel’s creativity and the determination of the entire video team will set them up for success as they begin filming their campaign videos in the upcoming weeks!
